Converting a JPEG to PNG stores the browser-rendered image using lossless PNG compression, suitable for workflows requiring PNG input. However, changing the format container does not restore sharpness, remove JPEG block artifacts, or remove background elements. Orientation and dimension accuracy
The browser may apply EXIF orientation during decoding. Portrait orientation can swap the stored width and height; inspect the displayed result. Converting re-encodes the rendered image into a fresh PNG and does not copy original EXIF metadata or embedded color profiles.

Frequently asked questions
Does converting JPG to PNG make the background transparent?
No. JPEG images do not contain an alpha transparency channel. Converting to PNG retains the original background pixels as opaque.
Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. Lossy compression in JPEG permanently discards image data. Exporting to PNG prevents further degradation during subsequent saves, but cannot restore lost details.
Why is the PNG file larger than the JPG?
PNG uses lossless compression designed to preserve every pixel accurately. Because it cannot discard visual data like JPEG does, the resulting file is usually larger.
Can I convert several JPEG files at once?
